I'M MOVING

to Dubai! They are offering citizens a gram of gold for every kilogram they shed in  a month to combat obesity.

The program is called "Your Weight in Gold."

Perhaps the reality version will be called "The Biggest Winner!"

AS I WAS WANDERING

the exhibit hall at the YSC/LBBC conference in Orlando a young woman tapped me on the shoulder.

I turned around to hear her say, "Thank you for coming to help us and here is a bracelet for you. She then put a realloy nice bracelet on my right hand that had a pink ribbon on it. I haven't taken it off since, but to shower.

It is those random acts of kindness that makes Cancerville a very special place. Happy to be there to collect that honor and help others dealing with that awful place.

I AM HAPPY TO BE HERE AND I AM UNHAPPY TO BE HERE

AND I IMAGINE YOU ARE TOO!

THAT WAS MY OPENING LINE AT THE WORKSHOP I LED FOR CAREGIVERS (AKA "HEART AND SOUL GIVERS") AT THE YOUNG SURVIVAL COALITION AND LIVING BEYOND BREAST CANCER CONFERENCE JOINTLY SPONSORED WORKSHOP IN ORLANDO.

Over 600 women, mostly survivors, from 14 countries are attending this amazing, informative, supportive event.

Obviously, I was happy to be there to be helpful, but unhappy because it is painful to see so many young people suffering, because I hate cancer with the same intensity that I hate the Nazis, and because never in my wildest imagination did I see my skill set expanding to being an "expert" in helping others cope with cancer.

THAT SAID MY DAUGHTER IS DOING VERY WELL AS IS HER MIRACLE BABY and my mission is to continue to help people dealing with the place I call Cancerville (aka CANCERVILE!)

MANY FUNNY JOKES BUT THE WINNER IS

JIMMY KIMMEL who said:

"CVS is no longer selling cigarettes. They say it is the right thing to do for our customers and our company in their path for better health.

If they want to promote better health, maybe they should stop selling Cheese Whiz, Circus peanuts, Debbie jelly rolls and all the ingredients for meth."

Well stopping selling Nic is a good start. They will sacrifice 2 billion + dollars a year

THIS WAS A QUIET WEEK FOR LATE NIGHT COMICS

Justin disappeared from view as did the Mayor of Toronto as did our politicians, who came together or at least didn't destroy each other and us. The comedians usual prey were no where in sight so they had to pick on the Olympics and the Westminster dog show.

Best of show, amid a poodley mix was Jimmy Kimmel:

"Today in New York was the finals of the Westminster kennel Club dog show. This was the 138th Westminster dog show, which proves that no matter how boring something is, you can still do it over and over again."

Woof!

More bronze than gold! Actually, maybe 4th place!

MAY SHIRLEY TEMPLE REST IN PEACE

Hers was an interesting life both as a young movie star and an ambassador—twice, as well as mom, grand mom and great grandmom.

I was offended by a cartoon in the Sun Sentinel that shows a young Shirley with a halo over her head entering the pearly gates with the "host" calling with a smile on his face and asking, "Boss, did you order a Shirley Temple?"

Disrespectful all the way. If you agree sent the SS editor an email saying BOOOOOOO!

APPROPOS YESTERDAYS POST

Here is a quote from Mr. Sorkin's eloquent eulogy in Time Magazine for Mr.Hoffman:

"...Phil Hoffman, this kind, decent, magnificent, thunderous actor, who was never outwardly "right" for any role but who completely dominated the real estate upon which every one of his characters walked, did not die from an overdose of heroin—he died from heroin. We should stop implying that if he had just taken the proper amount, everything would have been fine.

He didn't die because he was partying too hard or because he was depressed. He died because he was an addict on a day of the week with a y in it."

These powerful words, I would say, take on more meaning given he was clean and sober, best as we know, for 20+ years. Our demons lurk within and can attack us without warning. Even on a good day, life is a slippery slope. BE CAREFUL! Phil wasn't and paid the ultimate price!! He left this world much too soon.

Prayers for all addicts everywhere and for Phil—a good man with a really bad disease.

HAVING READ A VERY

honest and touching eulogy in Time Magazine for Philip Seymour Hoffman by this friend, coworker, and fellow recovering addict Aaron Sorkin, I find myself semi-obsessed with this most sad story.

Phillip, a highly gifted actor, Oscar winner, father and family man, after years of recovery shoots heroin into his veins and dies a tragic and pointless death prematurely.

It tells us just how powerful addiction can be and how vulnerable the best of us can be. My guesstimate is that 2/3 of Americans, or perhaps more, are addicted to something from drugs to food to social media, and all stops in between.

Addiction may very well be the most deadly disease of all.

May Mr. Hoffman rest in the peace he could not find, despite having all of the life accessories one could ever ask for, except the ability to rein in his addiction. It makes no sense whatsoever, but creates devastating non-sense for too many people. May we someday find the secret to unlock this brain-based nightmare, so we people don't continue to torture, torment, or kill ourselves.

NOSTALGIA

is looking backward with delight, while simultaneously looking forward with the anticipation of more good stuff to come.

We will always be able to hear the Beatles sing, both on our devices and in our heads.

SUPERBOWL 48

was boring, surprising almost shocking.  We all, almost all, rooted for Mr P and he/ they failed to make it happen OR EVEN COME CLOSE.

All that hard work all season long for naught.
