CONTINUING ON THE HAPPIER/FEELING BETTER NOTE

I have doubled my exercise to 4 miles a day when the weather and my body cooperate. Actually, about to go to the park when I finish this blog.

I believe it has increased the amount of natural brain chemicals I am producing.

I also shoot basketball and occasionally hit racquet balls on a handball court.

All of this combined has enabled me to lose some weight, feel fitter, and be happier.

I encourage you to evaluate your activity level and increase it in proportion to your health and with doctor support. My Mom went to the gym twice a week till she was 981/2, and swam several times a week into her 80s, which is perhaps why she made in healthily and living on her own till that age!

SILLY ENOUGH

giving up diet coke has helped. The caffeine was not helping me. Not drinking it has helped me to feel better.

Considering that i don't drink coffee or tea (and neither does my wife) soda has always been a staple.

Have given up all carbonated beverages (including seltzer) and just drink water now (with an occasional glass of wine) seems to have made a big difference.

Try it u may like it! More to come.

NOW THAT THE SS SHOWS LATE NIGHT HUMOR

I will post a best joke of the week. How much u want to bet that next week will b one about JB.

I was thinking that he will soon drift into crack, which will position him well to be the next mayor of Toronto.

This weeks joke:

Conan O'Brian

"The smog from factories in China is traveling across the Pacific and now is hitting the U.S.  So now   even our smog is made in China. We don't even have American smog anymore."

I walked 41/2 miles and shot 8 of 10 from the foul line.  My previous record was 7/10.

Heat not calling just yet but time will tell. In any event i feel great.

Hope you do too.

I'M ALWAYS ON THE LOOKOUT

for inspiring stories.

Just read about a jazz musician whose daughter was killed in the Sandy Hook nightmare a year+ ago. He spent the better part of '13 mourning and grieving, but has created a CD called "Beautiful Life" in memory of his daughter. His name is Jimmy Greene.

It is inspiring when artists turn their personal tragedy into creativity. Reminds me of the song Eric Clapton created when his child died prematurely. It enabled his son to leave

JB

better watch out or he won't even make the 27 club. Those are all the rock stars who died at that age. There is an inordinate number.

Never much cared for him or his talent or lack thereof, but he needs a guide thru the wilderness of his cess as he makes one mess after another.

Sad really, how so many superstars lose their way and become superbar patrons and super druggies.

He is, to quote an old song, "On the Eve of Destruction!!!"

Perhaps he should hang with LL and they can either help each other climb out of the hole or sink within it.

THE FICKLE FINGER OF WEATHER

Monday I spend most of the day on the beach in Jupiter enjoying a chamber of commerce day while writing, reading, and walking for at least one hour.
Tuesday, the bottom fell out with 50 degrees, strong winds, rain, gray skies and looking like snow any moment.
Weird that the weather  can change  so rapidly—like life itself.
Let that be a lesson to you. You just never know what's coming around the corner. Let's hope for sunny skies ahead.

NOT ONLY THAT

but i have also eliminated all carbonated drinks included diet coke to which I have been addictively attached for more years than I care to remember.

Now my drink of choice is water, which feels very pure.

LAST NEW YEAR'S DAY I SAID

"There is no more important priority on your "to do" list than taking better care of you."

It took me till late October to follow my own advice. Since then I have doubled my walking to 4 miles almost every day and halved my food intake, avoided unhealthy stuff (for the most part) and lost almost 20 pounds.

So, I am repeating that message this New Year's day simply cause I have at least another 15 pounds to lose. Years ago I said, "I may not be able to prevent becoming an old man, but I can prevent becoming a fat old man." For the past few years I have not prevented that and am committed to doing that in 2014.

I encourage you to pick some simple health goals for your body and mind and get going—well before October!
