I WAS AWAY LAST WEEK

and for the first time ever didn't do email or text or cell phone for 7 whole days. It was strange but once I adjusted it was like old times—very relaxing to be disconnected every once in a while. I encourage you to try it if/when you can.

It was a lovely trip with our family celebrating our special anniversary.

Enjoy and Bye for Now,

A TIMELY FUNNY

I tell you, it's really amazing how popular baby Jesus was able to become without his mother posting a single picture of him on Facebook.

WHATEVER YOUR RELIGION

or beliefs I hope you can find joy in the Xmas holidays. It can be a very religious time about the birth of Jesus or just a fun tradition of Old St. Nick, gift giving, family and friend togetherness times, and just deck the halls...

Hope it is a pleasant and fun time for you.

A FRIEND SENT ME SOME INTERESTING THOUGHTS

I've learned that:

being kind is more important than being right.

that just one person saying to me, 'You've made my day!' makes my day.

that sometimes all a person needs is a hand to hold and a heart to understand.

that it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.

that love, not time, heals all wounds.

that life is tough, but you're tougher.

that everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.

that the best classroom in the world is at the feet of an elderly person.

ANOTHER FUNNY ONE!

...HP started in a garage. Google started in a garage. Microsoft and Apple started in a garage. Maybe we should be spending less on education and more money on garages. Let's get every nerd in America a garage.

—Jimmy Kimmel

I have always said that in my next life I will become a college dropout and clean out my garage!

TWO FUNNIES THAT ARE TOO FUNNY

"The world said goodbye to Nelson Mandela. And what a life he lived. He spent 27 years in prison and then ascended to become president of his country. He went from prison to politics. It was exactly the opposite of how we do it in this country."

—Jay Leno

"In an interview Oprah Winfrey said she has no regrets about not having children. Oprah said, ' I feel bad enough about bringing Dr. Phil into the world.'"

—Conan O'Brien

Hard not to agree in both cases.

TODAY

I was honored by Sierra Tucson—the best mental health facility in all the world—with a Gratitude Award for Lifetime Achievement.

It was a beautiful honor and one that I will cherish as it fills my "pride bank" full.

Hope you had a great day too.

NO COINCIDENCES JUST ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES

as u know from previous blogs.

So this morning as i headed East at an early hour I noticed the bicycle guys dressed in tight fitting garb that i couldn't have fit into at my bar mitzvah wending their way through traffic. I thought to myself "a git mishuga," which roughly translates as crazy man crazy!

So today's SS has a local story titled "Injuries  on bikes on rise." Between 2010 and '12 the number of cyclists injured increased by 42%. Confirmed my thoughts. Definitely a git mishuga!

IN CATCHING GLIMPSES

of Monday night football I couldn't help wonder why anyone would live in Chicago in the winter?

It is, by all measure, a wonderful and beautiful city but not in December with a wind chill dropping from minus 9 at game time. The smoke coming out of the players mouths could light a bonfire, which they could really use.

I walked and sat on the beach today and that is my kind of weather. You couldn't pay me to live there! Well depends on how much, but it will cost you.

EQUANIMITY

has been the word used to describe the man who was in federal prison for 25 years for the murder of his wife, which he did not commit.

We can all take a lesson from his playbook.

Look up the word to see what it means. Frankly, I'd be pissed beyond words.

And his documentary scheduled to air tonight on CNN at 9 was preempted by another man who spent even longer in jail for no reason due to Nelson Mandela's death today.

I vividly remember standing outside the sparse cell in which he spent 28 years. OMG unbelievable. He emerged pretty darn angry, but turned that into a series of blessings for his country and the end of apartheid, and the beginning of his leadership.

Both are quite a story.

Two strong men sacrificed so many years for no reason. .Justice for many, injustice for some. Sad really.

The documentary has been rescheduled for Sunday eve at 9 on CNN.

I AM ALWAYS ON THE LOOKOUT

for stories that inspire instead of conspire or make me perspire.

So here is one I just found in New York magazine:

A young man proposed to his girlfriend at Best Buy while a video montage of their relationship played on the electronics store's televisions.

Now that is electrifying LOVE in techno-color!

Hope their marriage lasts as long as mine has.

FANDOM REVISITED

Face paint, fanaddicts, fun, fouls, and fantastic noise levels all contribute to this eves Monday Night Football. Could be called green eggs and hamming it up as lime green is the color of the night. Hair, dresses, shirts, hats, and faces in many shades of green.

If a person from another country was watching he or she would think it was craziness personified.

Yet, in fairness, it is very therapeutic. The screaming and yelling from stands designed to increase decibel levels helps vent people's angst as well as confuse the opposition. The allegiance to Seattle's team makes for a healthy identification with a strong and winning team. I'm pretty sure the NY Jet fans wished they lived there, as even they booed their team and their Qback. We as people tend to root for winners and abandon losers—even if they are the home team. The coaches of losers tend to quickly become—well—abandoned!

At the end of the day it is all harmless fun and healthiness by association. My nature is not fanaddical, but i admire those who can let it all hang out and care about the outcome of a game. Perhaps in my next life. Perhaps by then the Dolphins, Marlins and Panthers will be worth rooting for. Or, maybe we will have a soccer team by then worth cheering on to victory. Then again, there is always Lacrosse.

Go teams of your choice.
