But for the "he" rather than she and he or s/he this is a powerful statement. Back then "he" was the norm as women didn't yet count. My college hygiene text has a preface that read:
"He who hath himself for a doctor hath a fool for a patient."

True, but the same applies to the ladies! Obviously, I went to school in the middle ages.
